KCMG upbeat despite tough qualifying for Super Formula season opener

KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) faced an unfortunate qualifying run ahead of Super Formula’s first race at Suzuka Circuit after the #18 Toyota-powered Dallara SF14 encountered a downshift gear issue. This hindered Japanese ace Kamui Kobayashi to post a proper qualifying lap despite setting very competitive times in Sectors 1 and 2 during the first stage of the three-round knockout qualifying session.

This circumstance has placed KCMG at the back of the grid for tomorrow’s race. Nonetheless, the setback has not dampened the team’s will as the Hong Kong-based squad and Kobayashi are optimistic that they will bounce back and score championship points in their first Super Formula race as a team this season.

Kamui Kobayashi: “It’s quite a shame that despite our strong performance, we were not able to complete qualifying due to some gearbox issue. We posted impressive times before encountering this problem – therefore, despite our place on the grid, we’re looking forward to a very exciting race tomorrow and let’s see how much we can come back to the position.”
