KIDS COM TEAM KCMG SCORE DOUBLE-POINTS FINISH AT AUTOPOLIS

Kids com Team KCMG showed excellent race pace to finish with both Nirei Fukuzumi and Kamui Kobayashi inside the top-10 in the second round of the 2024 Super Formula season at Autopolis.

Both qualified well, setting strong lap times in the first part of the session to advance to Q2. The duo was able to secure positive starting places, with Fukuzumi in eighth and Kobayashi in 10th, providing a solid foundation for the 41-lap event.

At the start of the race, both cars would suffer an issue, causing them to drop down the order. However, they battled hard, showing good race pace to move their way back into the points-paying positions.

Fukuzumi would defend strongly to claim his second top-10 result of 2024 in eighth, while Kobayashi would secure 10th, ensuring a first double-points finish of the season for Kids com Team KCMG.

Super Formula is set to return on 21-23 June, as the series heads to Sportsland Sugo for Round 3 of the 2024 season.

#7 KAMUI KOBAYASHI

“The car ran really well throughout the weekend apart from the start, which is something that we will investigate. It was a tricky race, but I think that I’m heading in the right direction. I found a set-up more suited to my driving style, which allowed me to perform at a higher level. We will work to continue developing and look to finish in the points again at Sugo.”

#8 NIREI FUKUZUMI

“Overall, we are satisfied with our performance this weekend. It was a shame to get off to a slow start in the race, but we know that it’s a team issue as Kamui had the same. I was pleased to get ahead of a couple of cars through the pit stop phase. There is still room for improvement, so I’ll do my best for the next round.”

RYUJI DOI KCMG HEAD OF MOTORSPORT

“We have made some improvements this weekend, but unfortunately the start wasn’t good enough. Both cars had the same issue, which was about the initial power off the line. This caused the drivers to lose positions, however they bounced back well, enabling us to secure a double-points finish. It’s still a positive weekend but we know that there are factors we can improve on, which is what we intend to do in the break before Sugo, where we are expecting to perform well.”
