KCMG ALL SET TO KICK OFF 2026 SUPER FORMULA CAMPAIGN WITH MOTEGI DOUBLE-HEADER

KC Motorgroup (KCMG) is ready for the opening rounds of the 2026 Super Formula season this weekend at Mobility Resort Motegi as the squad aims to start the year strongly.

The Hong-Kong outfit names three-time Super GT500 champion and Super Formula race winner Kenta Yamashita in the #8 car for the season, who will be joined for this event by KCMG’s reserve driver Seita Nonaka in the #9 machine.

Both have fond memories of Mobility Resort Motegi, with Yamashita earning Super Formula podiums at the track in 2020 and 2024, while Nonaka scored points there during his maiden appearance for the team, finishing an impressive eighth in 2025.

In preparation for the new campaign, KCMG took part in pre-season testing at Suzuka International Racing Course last month, as the squad gathered valuable data ahead of the opening rounds.

Located in the Tochigi Prefecture, Mobility Resort Motegi is a regular on the calendar, with Japan’s premier single-seater championship visiting the circuit every year since 1997. The 4.8-kilometre track features several fast, sweeping curves, with overtaking most likely into Turn 11, following the long back straight.

On-track action begins on Friday morning with Free Practice from 10:10 local time (UTC+9). Qualifying for Race 1 takes place at 09:30 on Saturday, with lights out for the opener at 14:45 later that day. Sunday’s qualifying session starts at 10:10 and the second race of the weekend gets underway at 14:45.

#8 KENTA YAMASHITA

“I’m excited to make my debut for KCMG this weekend at Mobility Resort Motegi, which is a track I’ve enjoyed in previous years. It looks like rain is forecast for the weekend but I’m hopeful that we can use this to our advantage and achieve some positive results to kick off the season.”

#9 SEITA NONAKA

“In 2025, I raced for KCMG at Mobility Resort Motegi, finishing eighth in the second event, and I’m feeling positive about being given the opportunity to compete at the same circuit for the squad. I would like to thank those who have made this possible and I’ll do my best to deliver a strong performance.”

RYUJI DOI KCMG HEAD OF MOTORSPORT

“We can’t wait to get the 2026 Super Formula campaign underway in Motegi this weekend. The crew have been working hard over the off-season to ensure we’re fully prepared for this event as we continue to improve. We would like to welcome our new partners and thank our returning ones for their incredible support. The circuit has recently been resurfaced and with mixed conditions throughout the event, it will be a challenging start to the year. However, the entire team will work together to achieve the best possible results.”
