Rookie from Kildare awarded 2012 Irish Racing Driver of the Year

Former KCMG driver Kevin O’Hara has been the recipient of the Irish Racing Driver of the Year for 2012. Apart from being presented with the prestigious Dunlop Sexton trophy, the award grants the Irish driver €50,000 funding to compete in a full racing season for 2013.

O’Hara had an outstanding 2012 season competing in Irish Formula Vee, where he became the first driver to set a lap time under one minute in a Formula Vee car at Mondello Park. The young driver from Kildare later won the Formula Vee Festival in July. Notably, he garnered all these accomplishments while balancing motor racing with finishing his Business and Law degree.

The 22-year-old also went on to compete in the Walter Hayes Trophy last November. O’Hara finished second in his heat race after competing in a field of almost 150 cars. He is also a former China Radical Cup Champion in 2009 with Asia-based racing team KCMG. O’Hara will now go on to contend in both Ireland and the U.K. in Formula Ford 1600 with support from Dunlop, the Irish Sports Council, Aigle Music and Motorsport Ireland.
