KCMG becomes first Chinese team to be granted entry in Le Mans 24 Hours

Leading Hong Kong-based motorsport team, KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) makes history today as it announces its entry in one of the world’s most prestigious races, the Le Mans 24 Hours. KCMG will be marked as the first ever Chinese team to compete in what is hailed to be the greatest endurance race in the world of motorsport.

Organized by the Automobile Club de l’Ouest (ACO), the 81st edition of the Le Mans 24 Hours will be held at the Circuit de la Sarthe in Le Mans, France on June 22-23, 2013. Official testing starts on June 09 and will be subsequently followed by three qualifying sessions which shall take place two days before the event.

ACO has granted 56 invitations and have divided the entries into four categories. KCMG will run a recently acquired LM P2 Morgan chassis from OAK Racing’s constructor department, Onroak Automotive. The team has been working closely with the French team/constructor in preparation for the massive event in June.

KCMG Managing Director Paul Ip is currently in France to attend the official Le Mans 24 Hours press conference. In a recent interview, Ip states, “KCMG has entered many championships in Asia, but has not yet had the opportunity to participate in any Le Mans championships. Le Mans has a famous name in the motor racing world, and KCMG has always been very keen and interested in entering their events. My thanks go to ACO for giving us a great opportunity to enter the prestigious Le Mans 24 hours. Ultimately, my goal is to compete in France this coming June and to race in the World Endurance Championship in 2014”

Ip has disclosed that Alexander Imperatori will be one of KCMG’s representatives in the highly competitive endurance race. The Swiss driver has competed for KCMG in the All-Japan Formula Three Championship for two seasons before he stepped up to Formula Nippon in 2011 with the team. Two other drivers who will join Imperatori in France will be revealed on the KCMG website in due course.
