KC Motorgroup Ltd. (KCMG) capped off All-Japan Formula 3 Championship’s culminating event with another podium at Fuji Speedway over the weekend. After completing the closing races of the Japanese single seater series, Shohei Yuzawa sealed the 2014 season in fifth place with 69 points in the National Class standings.

Friday’s practice sessions went well for Yuzawa as he steadily picked up pace and emerged 3rd fastest in the National Class. Results garnered by the Japanese driver during the qualifying runs for Rounds 14 and 15 secured third and second positions on the starting grid for the #19 Toyota-powered Dallara F308.

In Round 14, Yuzawa was off to a good start and was closing the gap to class leader Hiroshi Koizumi by the fourth lap. The Japanese driver’s efforts to challenge for the lead highlighted his blistering pace throughout the 21-lap race. However, Yuzawa had to settle for a second place finish, gaining KCMG its seventh JF3 podium this season.

The championship’s final race saw Yuzawa’s performance progress with every lap. Halfway through the 15-lap challenge, the Japanese driver engaged in a harrowing battle for 2nd position with Rintaro Kubo. Unfortunately, a collision with the #62 car on Lap 11 resulted in Yuzawa’s retirement due to suspension failure.

Shohei Yuzawa: “I was quite disappointed with how the weekend ended but a podium finish in Race 14 is still a good result. Overall, I’m pleased with the progress that we’ve made throughout the year. I’ve learned a lot and it was truly an amazing experience racing in the championship with KCMG. I’d like to thank everyone who supported us this season and looking forward to seeing you all again next year!”

Ryuji Doi, KCMG Japan General Manager: “It was a weekend of mixed fortunes for the team but nonetheless, we are satisfied with the results yielded over the weekend. It was a pleasure working with Shohei this year. He scored seven podiums for KCMG and his progress throughout the season has been very impressive. On behalf of the team, we’d like to thank everyone who have been part of our 2014 campaign.”
