Cebu Pacific Air by KCMG display strong form in Sepang FMCS Winter GP

Cebu Pacific Air by KCMG concluded Formula Masters China Series’ Winter GP at Sepang International Circuit with a double podium finish by series debutant Thomas Maxwell. The Australian rookie additionally took second in the series points. Teammates Dan Polley and Kim Jeong Tae also displayed strong pace over the weekend.

Maxwell delivered impressive qualifying laps and secured third and second spots on the grid. Meanwhile, Kim Jeong Tae qualified fifth and fourth and FMCS rookie Dan Polley ended up sixth for both races.

Race 1 saw Asian motorsport’s young blood battle intensely with Thomas Maxwell taking an impressive second in his FMCS debut. Dan Polley had a strong race to finish fourth and Kim Jeong Tae had a strong come back drive after spinning out of second position on lap 1.

Fastest lap from Saturdays race 1 determined the starting grid for Race 2 with the KCMG trio lining up third (Maxwell), fifth (Polley) and eight (Kim). Kim came through with strong pace to finish fourth ahead of teammates, Maxwell and Polley.

Race 3 took place in scorching conditions on Sunday afternoon, which saw Maxwell start from the front row. The Australian driver made a strong start and finished within a second of the winner and took fastest lap of the race to conclude a successful weekend. Polley made a strong start but was eliminated in a turn 2 tussle and had to retire with rear suspension damage. Meanwhile, Kim stalled at the start and used the race as a test session.

Thomas Maxwell: “Stoked with the results from the Formula Masters Winter GP. I feel we performed really well as a team and grew throughout the weekend moving forward each session. To be able to match it with the bench mark drivers from last season and come out with a 2nd overall for the series is very promising for us. After only 1 test I feel that there is loads more within myself, which will definitely leave me a strong championship contender in the 2016 series.”

Dan Polley: “I thoroughly enjoyed the Formula Masters experience in Sepang. I learned a huge amount about driving a slicks and wings car and am looking forward to another outing with the team and car later in the season.”

Kim Jeong Tae: “I’m a little disappointed with the results after being so strong in free practice. I made some mistakes in race 1 and 3 but I’m happy with my pace in Race 2. I can’t wait to be back with the team for testing in Shanghai next month to learn more.”

John O’Hara, KCMG FMCS Team Manager: “I’m happy with the results considering all three drivers are still learning and made significant progress over the course of the event. I believe we can continue this learning curve in pre season testing next month and look forward to another successful year in FMCS.”
