KCMG TO PARTICIPATE IN SUPER FORMULA ROOKIE TEST WITH KAMUI KOBAYASHI, YUJI KUNIMOTO AND ATSUSHI MIYAKE

KCMG will take part in the Super Formula post-season rookie test at Suzuka this week, with regular drivers Kamui Kobayashi and Yuji Kunimoto joined by Atsushi Miyake.

22-year-old Miyake took victories at Fuji Speedway and Autopolis in the 2021 Super Formula Lights season on his way to fourth in the standings. The Japanese driver has experience at the venue of the test, winning the GT300 class in the Super GT Series earlier this year.

Miyake will drive for the team on all three days, sharing the #18 with 2016 Super Formula champion Kunimoto on Tuesday and Wednesday. Kobayashi will be in the #7 car on the first two days, before Miyake takes over on Thursday for the rookie-only testing day.

The 2022 Super Formula season will start with two pre-season tests in March, before Round 1 at Fuji Speedway on 9-10 April.

YUJI KUNIMOTO
“Next season starts now and this week is the first chance for us to develop and improve as a team ahead of 2022. We didn’t have the season we expected this year, so we’ll be working hard to prove we can bounce back and begin strongly next season.”

KAMUI KOBAYASHI
“I’m looking forward to joining up with the team for two days of testing. Due to my World Endurance Championship commitments with Toyota, I was only able to participate in one race weekend with KCMG, so it’ll be great to jump in the car at Suzuka and begin our preparations for 2022.”

ATSUSHI MIYAKE
“I’m really excited to join up with KCMG for the Super Formula rookie test this week. Suzuka is a track I enjoy, I’ve driven there lots before but it’ll be the first time I feel the acceleration and cornering speeds of a Super Formula car. It’s going to be a great opportunity for me to learn from Yuji and Kamui. Both have several years of experience in the series and I’m looking forward to speaking with them and seeing how they work with the team.”

RYUJI DOI KCMG HEAD OF MOTORSPORT
“The rookie test this week is a great opportunity for us to start preparing for the 2022 season. We’re excited to have Atsushi with us for the entire test. He showed great promise in Super Formula Lights this year, taking two wins and three further podium finishes. The chance to work with Yuji and Kamui will be extremely valuable for him, and we’re looking forward to seeing how he fares in the car.”
