KCMG focuses on positives after tough weekend at Motegi

KC Motorgoup Ltd. (KCMG) rounded off a tough weekend at Twin Ring Motegi as Yuichi Nakayama strived to maintain the positive momentum that the team gained at Fuji in July. Despite their competitive pace during the practice sessions, the Hong Kong-based squad’s efforts came to nought in Super Formula’s latest round.

Saturday’s three-round qualifying session saw Nakayama get knocked out in Q1 after experiencing technical issues. However, the Japanese driver moved up two places on the starting grid after penalties were handed out to teams who were found using an illegal cooling intake system during the qualifying run.

From P15, Nakayama made a good start but a collision with Takashi Kogure on the first lap caused rear-end damage to his car. Nakayama was unable to recover and had to retire early in the race despite a very promising start.

Yuichi Nakayama: “We were not very fortunate at Motegi and it was quite disappointing to be unable to finish the race. The team worked hard to improve the car’s set up after qualifying and we had a chance of a good race result if not for the incident during the first lap. But this is racing and we’ll take the positive elements from this weekend and come back stronger in the next race.”

Ryuji Doi, KCMG Japan General Manager: “It was a challenging outing for us at Motegi but we have some positives to take away from the weekend. We’ll be working hard for the next race at Autopolis and hope to see an improvement on our current results.”
