KIDS COM TEAM KCMG SECURES TOP FOUR FINISHES IN BOTH RACES AT FUJI SPEEDWAY

Kids com Team KCMG took a solid haul of points during Rounds 6 and 7 of the 2025 Super Formula season at Fuji Speedway, with both Nirei Fukuzumi and Kamui Kobayashi scoring fourth place finishes for the squad.

After an impressive qualifying performance on Saturday, Fukuzumi lined up third, which was a position he held onto for the majority of the race until the latter stages, before having to settle for fourth.

In the #7 car, Kobayashi started ninth, gaining two places on the opening tour, however, he was forced into a second pit stop after contact, eventually crossing the line in 22nd.

On Sunday, Kobayashi began in sixth and after a Safety Car intervention just past the halfway stage, found himself in fifth. With just a handful of laps to go, the Japanese driver pulled off an excellent overtake into Turn 1 to move into fourth, finishing the race just 0.211 seconds off the podium.

On the other side of the garage, Fukuzumi lined up 11th and was showing good pace after his stop, but suffered a tyre issue on Lap 13, forcing him to retire from the event.

Super Formula now heads north to take on Sportsland SUGO on 9-10 August, with just five rounds remaining of the 2025 campaign.

In the Kyojo Cup, Kids com Team KCMG’s Miki Onaga clinched victory during Sunday’s Feature, building on her second-place finish during the Sprint Race. The Japanese driver is now tied for the championship lead, sitting on 52 points after four races.

Rami Sasaki crossed the line in ninth during the Sprint Race, while Reina Amaya and Kelsey Pinkowski also showed encouraging signs. The championship returns to Fuji Speedway on 16-17 August.

#7 KAMUI KOBAYASHI

“I’m pleased that we finished the weekend off on a positive note by taking fourth in Round 7. Saturday’s event was tricky and after suffering contact we were forced into a second stop which damaged our race. Even though we came fourth on Sunday, we made a mistake with the timing of our OTS usage, but it was still a strong result. We now go to Sportsland SUGO aiming to replicate the performance we had during the second event of the weekend and will target another podium finish.”

#8 NIREI FUKUZUMI

“Saturday’s performance shows that we’ve made progress as we only narrowly missed out on the top three. It was tough to take but considering the problems we’ve had this season it’s definitely a positive result. We took a risk during Sunday’s race, going for an early stop as we were further back in the field, but suffered a tyre issue which the team is looking into. It’s a shame as we could’ve come through and taken some points, however, we’ve shown this weekend that we’re going in the right direction.”

RYUJI DOI KCMG HEAD OF MOTORSPORT

“It’s great to see both cars finish fourth across the two races, only narrowly missing out on the podium. We had some issues throughout the weekend with Kamui suffering contact on Saturday and Nirei having a tyre problem during Sunday’s event. However, the two drivers did an amazing job over the two days and that gives us great confidence heading to Sportsland SUGO. In the Kyojo Cup, we’re delighted that Miki Onaga won the second race and continued her strong start to the 2025 campaign.”
