KCMG had a frustrating event at Suzuka International Racing Course last weekend, as the squad were unable to break into the top 10 across Rounds 4 and 5 of the 2026 SUPER FORMULA season.
Friday saw Kenta Yamashita show strong pace in Free Practice 1, recording a top five finish. However, on Saturday, neither Yamashita nor his teammate Seita Nonaka were able to advance into Q2, meaning they would line up 15th and 18th respectively for the opener.
Yamashita made solid progress in the opening stages of the event before his race was brought to a premature end due to a damaged floor. In the #9 car, Nonaka managed to move up to 12th, but on Lap 18 he suffered a race ending incident at 130R after an issue with his rear wing.
Round 5 on Sunday saw Yamashita narrowly miss out on Q2, with the current SUPER GT500 champion finishing the race in 16th. On the other side of the garage, Nonaka was able to gain four places across the 31-lap event, crossing the line in 19th.
SUPER FORMULA is back in action on 30 June – 1 July for mid-season testing at Fuji Speedway.

#8 KENTA YAMASHITA
“I did well in Round 4 and was able to make some overtakes before the retirement, but mistakes in qualifying for Sunday made the second race difficult. We didn’t have enough pace in the car and we still need to work on the set-up, so we’ll have a re-think and come back stronger in Fuji. The car has a lot of potential, so we are targeting significant improvements.”

#9 SEITA NONAKA
“After the incident in Round 4, we changed the set-up of the car. It improved the performance, but we are still not where we want to be. We performed better in Sunday’s race, making a solid step forward. I think we’re now on the right track so we will continue to push forward as a team.”
