SGC by KCMG hangs tough in First Round of Japanese Formula 3

SGC by KCMG was off to a challenging start at the first round of Japanese Formula 3 in Suzuka as the weather became unpredictable over the weekend.

Gary Thompson managed to secure fourth and third position during the first and second qualifying sessions in the Toyota powered Dallara F308 despite wet conditions on circuit.

The team came to Suzuka confident for the Japanese series’ first round. Unfortunately, Thompson got eliminated by another driver during Lap 1 while overtaking and was not able to finish the first race.

The Irish driver came back stronger during the second race as he managed a good start and finished fourth.

Gary Thompson: “We have a lot of ideas for the car in preparation for the next race. We have testing next week and we are looking forward to try new things there. We hope that we’ll be able to address the set up issues and come back stronger in Motegi.”

KCMG Japan General Manager Ryuji Doi states, “We came to Suzuka with good preparations but conditions were very challenging. We are very pleased with Gary, as he drove hard to keep fourth position. Keeping the position was difficult and it is important we were able to earn points for the championship. The team is looking forward to testing in Fuji next week and has lots of ideas on how to improve before Round 2 in Motegi. We just need to keep on working to find the best set-up for the Dallara F308.”

SGC by KCMG prepares for Round 2 of the highly competitive Japanese series which will be held in Twin Ring Motegi on May 12-13.
