Collision deters SGC by KCMG’s result at Autopolis

SGC by KCMG was aiming for a breakthrough in the third round of Formula Nippon at Autopolis International Circuit yesterday; however, a collision with Koki Saga put off Ryo Orime’s chance to score his first point for the team.

The Japanese driver secured 16th position during qualifying on Saturday after pushing hard to obtain pace and adapt to the Toyota V8 powered Swift FN09.

Orime informed the team that he felt very comfortable with the car’s set up and did well during Free Practice before the race. Unfortunately, Saga collided with Orime’s car at the third corner during Lap 1, damaging the car’s suspension. Both drivers retired during the first lap after hitting the tire barrier.

KCMG General Manager (Japan) Ryuji Doi commented that Orime was confident of challenging for a points scoring position before the incident. Ryuji Doi states, “We were catching up with the pace during warm up this morning. We tried a different set-up for the car and Orime-san felt improvements. Unfortunately, the contact with Car 62 prevented our driver from finishing the race. The team is not disheartened by this as we will keep on working harder and try to win that first point in Fuji.”
